Looking Back, Looking Forward
Chapter 11 of the letter to the Hebrews contains a long list of Bible heroes – people who, despite significant flaws, trusted in God and knew his blessing. Then we read,
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us…
Hebrews 10:1
As we leave lockdowns behind and begin to emerge from the pandemic, we cannot go back to what there was before. But the instruction here is relevant to us – we need to strive forward with determination.
The Christian life is not a matter of reaching perfection or settling for mediocrity – it’s a journey of learning and growing. We can look back at the past 18 months and learn what God has taught us. And then look forward and step into the future God is giving us.
As you know, a number of changes were announced before the Summer break and now things are beginning to be a bit different. We are seeking to bring in these changes carefully so that change does not divide us. We will need to have grace for one another when things don’t go well and kindly express issues as they arise.
Life Group Central
Some existing Life Groups are restarting and we are forming at least 3 new groups. More details about what a Life Group is can be found on the leaflet at all three church buildings.
For the next three weeks we are inviting all the existing groups and anyone interested in joining a new group to come along to a central gathering. In the past we have run Lent and Advent courses and the format will be similar for these first three weeks.
We will be looking at the book ‘Love Your Church‘ which takes us through some of the joys of being part of a church. The book is available to buy from church at the discounted rate of £5. Buying the book is not essential, but it may help your engagement with the topics under discussion.
Booking is not required, but it would be really helpful to know how many people are coming.
