Following each PCC meeting, we do our best to update the wider church on our discussions. This update has been slightly delayed to include information about the changes to service times across the benefice following the recent open meeting.
Please pray for the PCC on their annual Away Day on Saturday 15th Nov. On Sunday 23rd Nov there will be a Bring and Share lunch at 12 noon, followed church family meeting. Please put this date in your diary and come along.
Back in September I wrote to the electoral role, explaining a continuing issue concerning the budget of the church. I am delighted to report that we are already in a far better position than in previous years. Full details will be presented in the Church Family meeting on Sunday 23rd November. Thank you so much for responding so generously.
The Church Building
Emergency repairs have been made to the lead roof – weatherproofing the South Aisle against the rain. A quinquennial inspection is being carried out and a report produced before Christmas. This will mean some heavy bills in the New Year and we will be sure to keep you informed.
We have received nothing but positive feedback following the removal of pews and installation of carpet in the South Aisle and near the North Door. Our current trial is coming to an end, but given the delays in getting permission to move ahead and replace the floor, the PCC is applying the archdeacon to extend the trial until a permanent solution can be found.
The Beech Tree
Since the last PCC meeting a 150-year-old tree has fallen in the churchyard, damaging two other trees nearby. We are moving ahead with work to clear the debris, make safe any affected trees and hope to be able to salvage some of the timber from the main trunk.
The PCC spent some time discussing the future of the building. Whilst we are still waiting for news concerning the pipe organ, the PCC discussed seating in a remodelled church and were unanimous in preferring chairs to pews. We are now writing to a number of furniture companies to request samples. These will be put out in the South Aisle in the future weeks to see what sort of seats people prefer.
Sunday Service Times
Thank you to all who have taken part in the discussions in the benefice about the times of our services. Following the meeting on Monday 3rd Nov, the wardens met to make a decision. Teams will now be formed to work through the details of each service. This new pattern will begin in January and there will be a chance for feedback before Easter.
Two options concerning morning services were presented: moving the service in Lutterworth to 9am or 11am. Whilst there was preference for 11am, we were unwilling to exclude certain groups that would not be able to be involved at that time. In the spirit of compromise, we developed ‘Option C’ – splitting the difference and holding the service at 10.00am.
The new plan also includes the development of a new ‘fresh expression’ at 4.30pm, building on the success of Messy Church and Word & Worship. Evensong will continue to be held in the three churches of our benefice.
